It's official — the send is booked. Greece into Defected Malta. Four nights in Athens, three in a Cretan villa, then five nights of house music on a Mediterranean island. Twelve days. Now lock in your flights.
Lads — Azalas is finally getting married. We've done this a few times already, you know the drill. His last chance to bury what's left of his single life. Leigh and I have put in the hard yards and it's locked in: Greece into Malta, 12 days. Bigger. Further. DEFECTED.
Athens to warm up, Chania to level up, Malta to send it. All three legs are laid out below — accommodation, day-by-day and the damage. Tap a leg to jump straight to it, or just keep scrolling. All three stays are booked and locked in — the only thing outstanding is your flights.
Leg 01 · Athens, Greece
Koukaki Apartment
Sep 23 – 26, 2026 · 4 nights. An apartment in Koukaki — one of Athens' best neighbourhoods for nightlife and food, right at the foot of the Acropolis. Walking distance to bars, restaurants and rooftops, right near Banana Club. AC, WiFi, balcony, washing machine — basic shared rooms, bunk up with a lad. This is the warm-up. Cheap, cheerful, chaos.
Aaron flies Emirates in via Dubai; the crew lands from Melbourne. Drop the bags at the Koukaki apartment, then a huge lads dinner in Athens' BBQ district. Eat well — we're going to need all the energy we can get.

Platanias v Panakrotiriakos ⚽
Opening day of the all-Crete third division, and it's a local derby — Platanias are the coastal strip west of town, Panakrotiriakos are Akrotiri where the airport is. Perivolía Municipal Stadium, 16:00. Platanias were a Greek top-flight side until 2018 and this is the ground they did it in.A few euros cash on the gate. No app, no account, no passport scan — the third division sits outside Greece's ID scheme, which makes this the easiest ticket of the whole trip. Ten minutes by taxi, back in the Old Town for dinner by half six. Depends entirely on the flight: we need to be on the ground at Chania by about 14:15. FAQ
Quick answers.
The questions people keep asking before they commit. Tap to open.
Are the dates actually locked?
Yes. It's booked: Athens 23–26 Sep, Chania 27–29 Sep, Malta 30 Sep–4 Oct. Defected runs 1–4 October — that's the anchor everything's built around. The only moving part is your flights.
How do I get there — Dubai or Melbourne?
Aaron's in Dubai from 17–23 Sep and flies Emirates into Athens on the 23rd. Want to route through Dubai and fly in with him? Just let Aaron know. Otherwise link up with Leigh to sort flights from Melbourne — Igor, Chris Le and Chrissy G, that means you. Book sooner rather than later.
Can I just do part of the trip?
Yeah — Deano's proof, he's most likely on for the Athens leg only. Just let Leigh know which legs you can make. Half a send still counts. Note the per-person price shifts a bit depending on who's in for what.
When do I pay, and how?
We're all booking flights individually — do that now. Accommodation is booked and locked in across all three legs, so square up your share with Leigh. Defected passes are the next thing to lock.
What's the all-in cost again?
Roughly $8,533 all in for the 12 days — around $4,733 locked (flights, accom, Defected + internal), plus ~$3,800 spending money. Full breakdown is in The Damage. Depends how many lap dances you're paying for.
Can my partner come along?
Fuck no.
Crew survival
Non-negotiables.
The boring logistics that quietly hold the best trips together. Bookmark it — this is the difference between a perfect send and a Saturday morning at the immigration office.

Health
Body prep
No required vaccines for Greece or Malta — you're right to go
Pack electrolytes and Paracetamol — 12 days is a marathon, not a sprint
Sunscreen + swimmers — heated pool in Crete, beaches in Malta
Pace the Defected run: four days back-to-back will find your limit
Hydrate or DIE-drate. Buy electrolytes at the airport, not your funeral.
Final word
Fkn geeee up.
Greece into Defected in Malta for the bucks. This is genuinely going to be unreal. Get keen and lock it in boys.
Souvlaki worth planning a day around, plus the deep cuts for all three cities — sourced from the people who actually eat there, not the listicles. Tap a pin for the order, tap a card to fly to its spot.
Athens, mapped.
Pink 1–10 = the sacred souv ten from the reel · gold 11–16 = the deep cuts · 🏠 = the pad. Cards below in the same order.
Tiny window on the prettiest square in town — and it sells out by mid-arvo, so go early. Order: the pork kalamaki pita with tomato, tzatziki and paprika, eaten on the square.
First year in the sacred ten, planted in the central market chaos — butchers, fish stalls, grill smoke. Order: whatever's coming off the coals, with the market crowd.
Purist heaven a 15-minute walk from the Koukaki pad. Tomato and onion only, chips strictly as a side. The reel's one-word review: “I worship.”Order: pita, tomato, onion — nothing else.
The Piraeus institution — full card above. The specialty is little beef kebabs in handmade pita. Order: the wrap (2 kebabs) pre-Hydra-ferry; the portion — 2 pitas, 6 kebabs — post-ferry.
No listicle sludge. Sourced from the people who actually eat there — Culinary Backstreets, Greek food writers, local press.
Diporto
Sokratous 9 · under the Varvakios market
No sign, no menu — two unmarked doors and stone steps down to wine barrels, unchanged since 1887. You eat what Mitsos cooked today. Order: the chickpea stew + barrel retsina in aluminium jugs.
The market's mageirio since 1898 — and it runs right through Friday and Saturday nights for the after-club crowd. Order: the 3am patsas (tripe soup) — the ancient Greek hangover pre-empt.
Working taverna since 1927 with live rebetiko most nights from 10pm — Vamvakaris himself used to play here. Not a tourist "Greek night". Order: the gastra slow-oven lamb + gardoumpes.
Athens' oldest loukoumades house — frying to an unchanged 1923 recipe (honey, never syrup) in what was the city's first pharmacy. Order: loukoumades with honey, cinnamon and walnuts.
The closest deep cut to the pad — 15 min over Filopappou hill. Honest neighbourhood seafood, zero tourist markup. The name means "sanatorium": good food cures all. Order: octopus vinaigrette to share + whole fried barbounia.
Athens' benchmark natural wine bar — 90+ Greek naturals by the glass, proper chef food, zero preciousness. Order: an orange-wine flight + the smoked aubergine.
Fifth generation, one item since 1924: bougatsa filled with PDO pichtogalo cheese. Locals queue from 7am. Order: the cheese bougatsa, cinnamon and sugar on top — before it sells out mid-morning.
The Solidakis brothers' hole-in-the-wall since 1967. One item on the menu. Closes when the meat runs out. Order: "gyro pita" — it's the only words you need.
Sfakian mountain cooking from a wood oven — where Chaniot families do Sunday lunch. Snails, slow lamb, mizithra. Order: tsigariasto lamb, then sfakiani pita with honey to finish.
Tiny stone-walled rakadiko in a quiet alley — the raki arrives, the meze follows in rounds. That's the whole system. Order: nothing. Let them feed you.
Farmer-cook Stelios serves whatever the farm produced that day, off wood-fired stoves — snail stew, kleftiko in parchment, hand-cut chips. No menu. Order: whatever Stelios says is good. Trust him.
Forty years of the same fire. Antikristo lamb — staked upright around open flames for 4–6 hours, shepherd style. Order: the antikristo — you must call a day ahead.
The island’s unanimous legend — open basically always. Worth the pilgrimage; pair it with Mdina next door. Order: pastizzi + tea in a glass, like the regulars.
Sixty years of family-run ftira — fresh Maltese bread, a wall of fillings, zero tourist dressing. Order: the ftira b'kollox — "with everything," the locals' standard call.
Sammut family since the 1940s — one of the true Mġarr fenkata institutions. The rabbit feast is a group event, built for a table of lads. Order: the full fenkata — rabbit spaghetti, then fried rabbit, chips, wine, peanuts.
A working 1940s stone-oven bakery — timpana and ftira off the family's original dough recipe, Maltese drinks only. Known, but locals still rate it. Order: the timpana, then the slow-cooked rabbit if you're going deep.
A 400-year-old stone cellar on "the Gut" — Valletta's old red-light strip — and the local crowd's hangout for 20+ years. Order: the Maltese cheese & cured-meat platter with a Maltese red.
Family-run since 1986 — pick your fish off the ice, open kitchen, famous for the fish soup rather than the tourist platters next door. Order: fish soup, then the grilled catch of the day.
The name locals give for the post-club feed — big mixed-grill portions, still open when everything else is shutting. Right in the thick of it. Order: the mixed grill platter — or the doner wrap if you can't stand up straight.

The fine print
· Set times land on the official Defected app closer to the festival — stages above are A–Z, not running order.
· Day tickets only cover UNO. Café del Mar and The Ditch need the full festival pass — which is what we're getting, so all of it's ours.
· Boat parties: line-ups and times still TBA. Separately ticketed and you need a festival pass to buy one — they sell fastest of everything. Rule: be at the pontoon 30 min early; the boats leave ON time, with or without you.
· Fort St. Elmo isn't on the published splits yet, and David Morales hasn't been placed — both smell like a boat party or an extra announcement. Watch this space.
